Ancient flanking unit

Gameplay

Light Cavalry can travel great distances (but not over mountains), and is an effective scout unit. It is eventually out-classed by the Heavy Cavalry unit.

Historical

Before the development of the stirrup, riders did not have the leverage and stability necessary to mount charges, and were relegated to throwing their spears at the enemy. This technique remained useful up through Medieval times, though, with the Normans using it against the massed Saxon infantry at the Battle of Hastings.
